The Ministry of Mines has prepared the National Mineral Exploration Trust Amendment Rules, 2018 seeking to amend the National Mineral Exploration Trust Rules, 2015.

New Delhi: The Central Government has announced setting up of National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET), to be headed by the minister of mines, with a view to encourage exploration of mines and minerals in the country.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved National Mineral Exploration Policy (NMEP) on 29 June’16. It is a comprehensive mineral exploration policy/strategy that would be implemented in a coordinated, systematic and consistent manner to understand and uncover the mineral potential in our country.

The National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) of the Central government will take up exploration of 42 limestone blocks in Telangana at a cost of ₹40 crore during 2018-19.

To encourage mineral exploration in the country, the Mines Ministry has already notified the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET). "Through NMEP, the government wants to attract private sector in exploration, besides involving state-run GSI, MECL and other notified agencies.
